Q. What will happen if my sprinkler system is not winterized (blown-out) in the fall?
A. Water left in the pipes, valves, and heads will freeze, expand, and break. This can cause very expensive damage to your sprinkler system.
Q. What time of day is best to water?
A. The very early hours of the morning is the best time to water. This gives the water sufficient time to soak into your lawn before evaporating from sunlight. Night time watering is not advised due to possible growth of lawn fungus.
Q. What time can I water?
A. Many towns have watering restrictions and specific times that sprinkling is allowed (especially during a drought). Check with your town's public works department for specific outside watering rules.
Q. Why are sprinkler heads not retracting (heads continue to stick up) after watering is completed?
A. Older sprinkler heads often do not retract completely due to a variety of factors. A temporary solution is to spray the head with a lubricant such as silicone or WD-40. If the problem persists, the head will need to be replaced.
Q. What if there is a power outage? Will I lose all of the information stored in the lawn sprinkler controller?
A. Every controller has a battery back-up to prevent loss of stored data. Batteries should be replaced annually.
Q. How do I know what type of backflow device my existing sprinkler has?
A. Walk outside and locate where the sprinkler water exits your home. If you do not see one of the (below) devices, you may have an indoor backflow device or your system may not have a backflow device. Here are just a few examples of possible backflow devices your system may have. All AVB and PVB devices are not up to code and need to be upgraded.
Q. When I use my sprinkler, my water bill is very high, what can I do to lower my water costs?
A. The best solution is to upgrade existing basic controller to a smart controller.
